Honnemardu

The 'count me in' thing was becoming real as I reached the Bangalore railways (Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Station). It was 10:10pm when I received a call from Ambi to reach her from the platform that I was in. 'I'm wearing a black sleeveless overcoat Ambi' I tell her and she still can't spot me. After a couple of lodestars, I see her. Ambi takes me to Sumati, a colleague from The Poorna Learning Centre who was accompanying the children on their trek plans.
The train arrives at 11:30pm late by half an hour; we get to our seats in S Bogie and I take the top berth for some reason. It's 12:01am, the train has gained full speed and I can feel my whole-body vibration. Ambi was on the other berth opposite to mine, nicely tucked under her blanket and dozed off. She must have been tired with no sleep from the previous night as she had to take care of Flavia aunty her mom. Flavia aunty on that previous night had faced problems with burping and slight chest pain all of a sudden.
It was an eight hours journey. Around 1:00 am the lights were off, I saw Ambi sleeping, silence sets in and I fell asleep too.

Woke up at 6:16 am, got down from the top berth, and got freshened up. Our seats were closer to the door where Sunaina and Deeksha sat enjoying the view. A lot of trees and one or two houses seemed to pass quickly in front of us (we passed by them), grey fog covering otherwise. We saw sunlight going bright and dull on the fields and fog began to disappear taking the slight chill along. We read a sign-board 'Sagara' after two more was our stop - Talaguppa.
It was a bright day! It was 7:30 am when we got off the train and walked, we took a group picture before we headed out of the station. There were small breakfast centers on our left while we walked. We ate at  Acharya center - Avalaki Oggarne(Poha), Buns (that looks like Pooris), Idli, Kesaribath, and Halli Horlicks (Kashaya) and headed to begin our trek to Honnemardu. We were about ten people with all our backpacks entering the streets of the village that would lead us to our final destination. Abhay, the curious one, head on the deviated road that ultimately connected to ours. We decided to walk together and no more trials on trails to follow but just to listen to the guidance that we received over the call from the 'Honnemardu adventure camp'. There were berry plants, a lot of trees and plants to look around, Ambika noticed the berry plant - Karvanda and we stopped to munch on them. They were kaccha roads, but we enjoyed walking, 'a long walk, take left, follow the path just until you reach a tar road and left again' was something that I heard from Nachiketh, repeating what he heard over the phone. After an hour and a half, they had stopped ahead of us to relax while Ambika, Neil, and I exchanged some luggage we carried. We met the rest of them, sat on a fallen tree, and I had a panoramic view covering the entire area at one glance. There have been cashew trees not many just one or two, some tall trees which I couldn't identify, and the sun rays gleamed through them.

The route to Honnemardu was calm, there were few houses and we stopped at one of the houses for a small break. A lady came out hearing the murmur wondering who it was and was kind enough to provide us with water to drink later. It seemed like the house was built with blocks of red bricks. I loved the texture and the feel of it. We walked further after this break noticing the trees, leaving messages on the ground for the rest of the crew to have more fun! Around 11:30 am we could the Honnemardu water shining with a tint of turquoise. Nomito came out shouting a hello! When we reached the house, hugged Kavya and Nachiketh who'd met her already. She reminded them all the rules of the place and we went to wash our hands and legs, freshened up a little, and had our welcome drink - Tamarind juice.  The tamarind drink was satisfying, 12:45 pm was our first circle, we ate Idlis and got ready for our first drill of floating, paddling, canoeing. We ate lunch and after a while got back to the water for the coracle drill, I had very little idea about the events and just went by the instructions. There was a boy, Nomito's son I assume and another person named Bali were instructors. The sun was so beautiful. We carried the coracle down, when I say down- The land is a bit rocky and higher next to the water since it was a rocky surface we couldn't slide it down but had to carry it. We understood the seating technique and to balance while on it, and row. We had to equally distribute our weight in the coracle to balance from flipping upside down. A group of four - began to row, we reached another shore after rowing for about twenty to thirty minutes. We saw the sunset in shades of orange-yellows after relishing that moment we rushed back to our coracle to get back to our rooms before it was going to get dark.

We had our circle time after dinner, to sort the items that we were to carry for our expedition. we thought packing all the things needed before sleep would help us save time and start early. To our surprise, on the next morning, we had to wait for another four people to join us before heading to the water.

Day 2 at Honnemardu
Woke up at 6 am to freshen up. Halley Horlicks was ready. (Halley Horlicks - is a drink - milk with jaggery and turmeric, that is addressed in a fun way as Horlicks made by villagers) We met in the circle area that is the place where we have food together. It is also the place for our discussions and plans. 9:30 am we had our circle time, we were put into groups. There were two groups who were joining us in the coracle journey. We met one group on the previous night, who had been with us in the whole planning and we had dinner together. The other group joined us for the next morning. Instructions began at 10:00 am, it was short and quick. We carried food items, snacks, and a pair of clothes- minimal luggage as we had to keep coracle lighter. We started at 10:30 am from the bank and began paddling. A group headed in front to guide us, it had Swamy uncle, Nomito, their son, and a close friend-Bali. As we began, the morning breeze made us calm and paddling seemed effortless. It was a bright day. I wore blue shorts and a full-sleeved shirt to cover my arms. It seemed like time had slowed down. It was 10:54 am when we halted at the nearest rocky surface. We walked and stretched, had Chikkis (groundnut bars). I felt like a kid, energetic, and enjoying everything like I was looking at it for the first time. We spotted a shiny rock. Our next halt was at 12:15 pm. I was with Abhay, and two other people who weren't from Poorna, and by our third halt we were comfortable and joked while we paddled. Nachiketch had begun playing in the water during the halt, and Nomito screamed at him for doing that! This one was a good long break. We spoke to her for some time. We made shade out of the carpets we carried and sat under it for some time until everyone finished swimming and playing in the water. I dint play in the water. Ambika and some of us just sat and spoke to Swamy uncle and Nomito. (Refer to videos for convos)

We got into our coracle and began paddling, we changed the paddlers each one taking over, the water was so good, we could drink straight away, I noticed the bubbles and twirls, and the waves. They all seemed to be tuned in to make us move forward. I was taking a close-up video from my phone and I notice Swamy uncle's face grin and I at that point in time didn't understand the morse code he was making. Abhay and I took many pictures and once satisfied I rolled the phone in a cover to safeguard it from water and kept it inside the bag. My thighs began to burn because of the heat, it was turning red and I had to cover them with some cloth to avoid some more itch, lucky I had a scarf with me or I should have asked for Prasana's towel. I had thought about the face and wore a cap and arms - a full-sleeved T-shirt but I also realized about my legs, when this happened. Our next halt was to have lunch. We ate what he had in our lunchboxes, some of us shared and for some reason, I wasn't that hungry. Once we finished, we extended the break for ten minutes to relax and began our paddling once everyone was ready. The Sun that was above us had slowly slid down to our right. The sharp yellow colour was turning to orange and we could see the place, a dam that we were about to explore. We began estimating the minutes that we would take to reach, the paddling happened in full power. We cheered the paddlers, the ones in the other boats too, and sort of trying to reach first. By now the boat seemed comfortable to sit on and we learned to balance. We had to stay in line with the boat that was ahead of us. The boats were fifty meters away from one another and on water, though the horizon seems close it takes quite a time to reach. The horizon here I'm talking about is the dam that we saw from a distance. After an hour or so we reached, as we did- heard Swamy uncle yelling at one of the members who had walked ahead to explore the unfinished dam that we were to see. It is always important to stay in groups when on an expedition unless one really knows the place fully.

Meet cute ?

Warm greetings 
The weather is so lovely as I write this post, ( wind, thunder, lightening and rain) some might hate it for the ruckus it causes while some love it, I'm still naive in understanding and wonder should I call this contrast a world's rule ? day and night, right and wrong, and so on.

I would like to ask - how was the year 2018 - professionally and personally ? To begin with, and what is that you would continue to do to better yourself in the coming days? After which I will share my bit.
We are in the month of April 2019, yet I'm guessing it isn't too late to reflect on previous year and bring in changes to grow in later days.
Sitting by the beach with friends, cool breeze brushing one's face and a can of beer to drink on a moonlit night is just - magic.
To hold hands of a beloved and a promise to stay put forever is - magic.
A friend trying the best to help her friend sustain financial crisis is - magic.
Finding soulmate is - magic.
Enduring pain is - magic.
Finding a dream job is - magic.
Having babies - magic
These were some of the experiences my friends had shared and I felt they were all 'magic'.
Whatever and however previous year might have passed, what I learnt from it is - to endure. When one just accepts - things get better eventually and magic happens.
" It was on Dec 27 2018.
I parked my 2 wheeler at Jus' Truf parking, put my helmet in the vehicle and turned to see this guy. (I was on my 'first coffee date ever' set by one of my close friends).
The first few thoughts that rushed to my head as I saw him was - this isn't goin to work...
Avoiding thoughts we shook hands and greeted.
He led me inside and I chose the table.
We began talking...  His brown eyes sparkled as I looked and magically I was taken.
He was glowing and had this look of being seated in front of a glow ball or something.  (Like seriously)..
We spoke - random - things we liked to do sorts.
I'm very quiet and awkward around new people, couldn't eat or drink and began fidgeting. I decided to take him to our pottery studio (which was closer to our eat out space) and he came.
Surprisingly we were the only people at the studio. (Aunty - Ambis mom was near portico and I informed that I had brought a friend to the studio).
He listened to everything I said and gave a shot at working on the pottery wheel, I was tripping over him already. It was time and we had to leave.
I can still visualise the whole scene like it was yesterday.
We bid goodbye and by the time I was at the studio I had received a message saying ' it was nice meeting you da '. 
I was very worried about this meeting as I hadn't informed at home and took a decision of denial... But decided to stay in touch as friends.
It's been few months now and I feel so close. Endurance test (not to speak for 3 months) was such a fail LoL  and I'm happy about it as I got to know a lot more about this special one in such short period of time.
Very clueless as to how this Machan (as I like to call him and brings in comfort to talk) bond goes on and only time should answer.
Until then and forever
-Machan love
 "
2019 is seeming to be a magical one and I hope all our desires find a possibility!
To send in our desires to the universe and working hard with true heart - Magic.
I'm doing what I love - Pottery and also began earning this year - magic. I'm back to teaching as well ❤️ (self growth - a chance of being kid again).
So what's your love ? And are you working on it ?
Leaving the post now with this beautiful quote -
"Magic happens when you don't give up even though you want to. The universe always falls in love with stubborn heart!"
Until my next post
Wishing you all encounters of magic!

Pottery workshop at Motorcycle Diaries Event, Sakleshpur

Hello,
hope the Christmas was cheerful and here I am with another experience - All set and good to go ...

28-12-2018

The sun was beautifully orange and hid partially itself in the grey clouds, it was 4:00 p.m. and we were on our way in a TT (Tempo Traveller) to this event called motorcycle diaries which was at Sakleshpur.
We were going to have our pottery workshop and the unexpected company we had was one of the bands who were going to perform in the event. The main person of the band- Sam spoke a lot. He had a reminiscence of Bengaluru during his 20's, spoke of snakes, evolution of snacks and breakfasts, and everything we saw would turn into a discussion with him. I am guessing he must be in his forties now. I was mostly in my own sea of thoughts drifting away from the conversations. Jerome and Samuel were part of the band too. Ambika and I were for pottery.
The travelling itself is always fun! The cool wind brushing on my cheek and my pup face near the window!
We reached the place around 7:30 p.m.

Samuel is trying a selfie with Sam.
There was a signage that had motorcycle diaries and an arrow mark indicating the way for us to enter. It was dark, bumpy road and we couldn't tell where we were headed to, we reached Gagan's ( organizer) house and a little further to his place was the event going to begin (in their estate to be precise).
We shifted our materials into a room (built from metal sheets) and occupied quechua tents for ourselves to rest. Tents were on the other side of the DJ area (open fields of the estate). More than 30 tents were lined up for people who would register for this event.
Sam began strumming acoustics classic which was borrowed from Ambika and the rest of us star gazed. After a while Jerome spotted a wonderful star that flashed reddish orange colour and sometimes with blonde yellow. We stood in the open fields with darkness embracing us and star twinkling in seconds interval. Saw a falling star! We lost track of the twinkling star after a while, Sam was very happy and said it was a blessing that we were able to spot it. We headed back to the kitchen area to have dinner and the night was sorted.
Ambi had carried sleeping bag for me and I was lucky enough to sleep very warm. (I realised what to include in my next packing).

29-12-2018

We woke up around 6:00 a.m. and view was beautiful as we got out of the tent. Everything that was in shades of grey last night appeared clear in the morning. There were trees around us, birds chirped (parakeets mostly) and the sun sparkled through the branches.
We sipped green tea under the metal sheet close by our tent (Ambi had carried set of green tea packets and a flask). Warm tea soothed the chill on our skin and slowly the day began.

We spent a lot of time near the DJ area, which was also dining space during the day. Everything was beautiful with lot of greenery around us. After a while, we walked down to the open field and decided to sit on a rock for sometime. Everything seemed to move slow - people were unrolling serial lights for the evening, food trucks that had arrived were all set, Karan ran here and there to get things done (I have no idea what was his role with motorcycle diaries) and Gagan was mostly answering queries about the event to people who had been calling to his cellphone.

We waited in vain for Karan to help us with supplies to set up the pottery space. Finally at 4:00 p.m. Dha (Gagan's father) took us to the brick factory to check and collect clay for the workshop. Consistency and the kind of clay for making bricks v/s pots vary. The one that was in factory had lot of stone particles, needed wedging and  removal of stones  as working on the wheel would become difficult. We had no choice but to make use of it. It was getting dark and with helpers of the estate we got the clay wedged. The serial lights were up and glowing in the dark, Ambi treated me with paneer roll from one of the food trucks and we observed the sound check that happened on the other side of the pond near performance area. One of the walls that was painted with neon colors glowed in the dark. I had painted a vase with a heart on it (symbolizing my love for pottery and signed 'sand on wheels' next to it and Ambi had done flames-studio_ataash logo). There was a pup whose nails were painted with neon colors too, his name was Brownie (he was rescued and brought to the homestay by one of the members of motorcycle diaries), they had painted him so as to identity him in the dark and avoid people stepping on him. We headed to our tents after dinner and dozed off. The day had passed slow tiring us with no work at all and we did what has to be done righteous - SLEEP!

Quechua tents we slept in.

Open field and mood.

Came out of our tent to witness sunshine.

Samuel and I had got fascinated about this bike and there we were ...

Ambi with Romeo and Brownie (near the front wheel).

The brakes weren't working !

Chilling on rock.

Finally! We were here to collect clay. Brick factory.

I was wondering if all that was clay when I got to see it.

Glimpse of how the brick is shaped and cut.

There was a small pond in the estate.

30-12-2018

The day started off well and our stall was getting set finally! While others left for a trek. Getting the junction box closer to the pottery space was a hard task but one of the helpers got it fixed. Around 1:00 p.m. the pottery space was ready!
The hand-pan musician - Chirag and his wife tried making miniatures (musicians playing hand-pan) out of clay. They spoke about music, metals, robotics and their love story!
Later in the evening Sam and I went on cycling - it was lovely! I could hardly peddle up the bumpy road so I had to get down and walk a bit. Vehicles zoomed once we crossed the estate gates but otherwise fresh air and long green trees by our side was energizing, took us about thirty minutes to cover one stretch forth and back to the estate. There was an old motorcycle (sort of Yamaha RX) that I'd enjoyed riding that afternoon.

We were done with pottery for the day as sun began to set. The bands had began their sound check and they were going to play for real this time. The first band who performed was called ' Why do ?' , they were good. The next was 'celestial' Sam's band, we cheered them and teased Samuel with his surname 'Naina' by shouting it out loud. Another band whose name I'm not aware of - played Billy Joel's song 'slow down' beautifully. We swayed and enjoyed the live music fully.

Studio_ataash on the way...

Our tumblers and other things that were displayed at our stall.

That's Ambi. (I had managed to make her turn. Candid☺️).

31-12-2018

This day was our last day at Sakleshpur as we had decided to celebrate New Year with our families. So Ambi and I had packed our bags first thing in the morning.
People began showing up around 11 a.m. One particular visitor I remember is the Ayurvedic doctor who said was from California. She had come to India to visit her family and spend quality time traveling with them. Staying focused, she tried a small bowl form and enjoyed the making process. I noticed rashes on her hands; she explained that it was due to the cold weather and I'm allergic to the sun! The meet cute of allergies - must I rejoice? I was happy that I received a heartwarming hug from the lady before she left.

Couple of them tried on the wheel, we kept the articles to dry on the wooden boards and began packing out pottery things as it was time.
Around 2:30 p.m. Rameshana came to pick us, Sam who was resting in his own tent came out to help us with carrying luggage. We bid goodbye to Jerome, Samuel and Sam (Our new friends) and left there around 3 p.m.
Oh I forgot to mention about this one person who seemed very happy and cheered. He was Anshul and he'd decided to call me Sunday (instead of Sandhya) when he had greeted us, what a funny guy I thought!

When Gagan had called me for the very first time to inquire about conducting pottery workshop, I was so excited that I missed inquiring all about motorcycle diaries event. All I knew was - the event was for 3 days and we'd be there for pottery workshop. The reality v/s what I had on my mind regarding pottery workshop was sad but on the counter I did enjoy doing other things. The thing we hadn't realized was that people wouldn't show up until the day - New Year's Eve, and reached the venue way earlier than on required dates, perhaps this drained all our energy and we wanted to return - staying there made little sense to us.

In contrary to my story - the event did do well. The food trucks did great - everybody ate, the brownie stall did awesome and we saw them sorting cash after their sale ☺️, there was also a workshop on making dream catcher by one of Sam's friends. Samuel had explained to me that events, especially the events with live music - new year's Eve, go very slow. But somehow, perhaps because we are workaholics we couldn't relax and get along .. (Ambi knew that events were going to be like it yet had taken up on my behalf). Thoughts kept rushing to me as we were traveling back, our stay had become an experience already and I came to an understanding of how to go about confirming or planning on further workshops!

That said - things that saved us from boredom...

Until I'm back with my next post - Love.

Gym Craze! During 90's

Hello everyone!  If you are a kid in 90's all I want to ask you is to ask your uncle if they ever went to the gym when you were two year...
